Social Navigation Support through Group Play Therapy for Neurodivergent Youth

About this live event

Participants will learn about the "Kid 2 Kid" integrative, group play therapy format created by Monica Fyfe. Monica will share considerations for law and ethics, member selection, agendas and goals, and limit setting in a group environment. Participants will learn how to embed research-based directive interventions inspired by Acceptance and Commitment Play Therapy (ACPT), Teaching Interactions and Behavior Skills Training and Theraplay® inspired Group Connection and Movement Activities. Participants will also benefit from access to 4-5 curated social navigation role-play videos created by Monica Fyfe in partnership with an Eagle Scout volunteer project, inspired by PEERS® for adolescents.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe 3 legal and ethical considerations when creating a social skills group for kids or teens.
  • Describe ways to ensure the group is Neurodivergent-friendly and Strength-Affirming, for all members.
  • Describe a Teaching Interaction (TI) and how this differs from Behavior Skills Training (BST).
  • Identify 2 examples of enrichment activities/interventions that are inspired by ACT or Theraplay.
  • Identify the value of video-modeling, cognitive rehearsals and behavioral rehearsals, in supporting social navigation skill and choices in youth.

  • Monica Fyfe, MFT, BCBA, RPT-S

    Monica Fyfe, MFT, BCBA, RPT-S is the founder and Executive Director of Our Village, a 501c3 non-profit agency. She is also the owner of a group practice for play therapy called Play 2 Learn in Torrance, CA. Monica is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Monica is a Certified AutPlay® Therapy Provider, a Level 1 Fidelity Therapist in JASPER, a Foundational Theraplay® Practitioner, and a Certified PEERS® Social Skills Group Facilitator for Pre-School, Adolescents and Young Adults.

    In addition, Monica is an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University and Antioch University, Los Angeles, in their graduate programs. Monica also is an Instructor in UC San Diego's Play Therapy Certification program.

    She is also a mom of two teenagers. And also loves to write creatively. Monica is a children's author of the popular bibliotherapy series, "Welcome to Petsville: Stories of Pets and the Humans they Help and Love" including current stories entitled, "Lizzy's New School of Fish," "Sibling Shenanigans" and "Tumbling Towers."

CE Process Info

A continuing education certificate for the event will be obtained using the website, CE-Go. After the event, you will receive an email containing a link to CE-Go.   (This link will be sent to the email account you used to register for the event).

  • Association of Play Therapists (APT)

    This workshop meets the qualifications for 2 hours of continuing education as required by the Association for Play Therapy (APT). Our Village is approved by APT to offer continuing education specific to play therapy (APT Approved Provider Number: 20-614).

  • Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB)

    This workshop meets the qualifications for 2 hours of continuing education units as required by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Our Village is approved by the BACB to offer continuing education units (ACE Provider Number: OP-20-3298).

Refund

Cancellations & Refunds:
Requests for refunds must be made in writing by e-mail to: hello@ourvillageslc.org  Requests must be made at least 1 week prior to the training to receive a refund. There is a $15.00 administrative fee for all refunds.

There are no refunds for cancellations after the deadline of 1 week prior to the event; however, registration may be transferred to another individual, or you can use your credit to attend a future workshop/webinar with Our Village, within 1 year from the date of the original event.  There are no price breaks for partial attendance.
